Presentation Guidelines

PRESENTATION

A person or persons of your choosing will have three minutes to introduce you, and you will then have eleven minutes for your presentation and a question and answer session. It is your decisions how to divide the time; most choose to present for eight minutes and respond to questions for three. Please communicate how you would like to divide your allotted time to the Masters of Ceremonies on or before the evening of your presentation.

PRESENTATION MATERIALS

Please submit your presentation title, abstract and the name(s) of your introducers to jackie.folmar@yale.edu by noon the Tuesday before your presentation. Any media files you would like to display (PowerPoint, Keynote, Google Slides, etc.) should be sent to commonplace@yale.edu by noon on the day of your presentation. Plan to arrive in the Mendenhall Room no later than 5:15 PM to test them.

GUESTS

We encourage you to invite a few (no more than three, please) people who have supported your work, such as advisors, family members or close friends. Simply submit RSVPs to the Leadership Council for any guests you would like to bring that are not Commonplace Society members at least four days in advance. Guests entering and leaving is disruptive, especially to other presenters. Exceptional circumstances aside, all guests are expected to arrive on time and stay for the duration of the meeting.

CANCELLATIONS & DATE SWAPS

If you accept your presentation date but you will not be able to present, please notify the Leadership Council as soon as possible, but no later than two weeks before your scheduled presentation. Feel free to swap dates with other presenters, but be sure to notify the Leadership Council well in advance of both presenters scheduled presentations.

MEMBERSHIP & ATTENDANCE

Please note that to remain in good standing Commonplace Society members are expected to attend meetings and fulfill setup and cleanup duty requirements. If you have a conflict, please contact Jackie (jackie.folmar@yale.edu) in advance to be excused. Unexcused absences may result in this invitation being rescinded and your presentation slot being given to someone on the waiting list.
